Molly Orban, MD is originally from South Florida, where she lived until she left for residency. Dr. Orban grew up in Jupiter, Florida where she was lucky enough to both live on a dirt road and a short 20-minute drive to the beach. Dr. Orban cheered on the Gators while attending the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition. Shortly after, she moved on to Orlando, FL where she earned her medical degree from the University of Central Florida College of Medicine.
Dr. Orban then completed her one-year transitional year internship at UCF, a mix of medical and surgical training at Osceola Regional Medical Center and later matched at the Storm Eye Institute in Charleston, SC for ophthalmology residency training. She also served as the Chief Resident during her senior year, and in this role was able to lead and represent an amazing group of excellent physicians.
My interest in ophthalmology stemmed from one of my first jobs, where I worked in a family-run optometry clinic in my hometown. It was there that I first learned to appreciate the gift of sight, and became more interested as I learned the process of pre-testing patients, contact lens trainings, and optical sales. In medical school, I loved the field of surgery, but wanted a practice where I got to know my patients and served them over an extended period of time. Ophthalmology was a perfect fit, and I have only grown more passionate about the field with each year of practice.
During medical school, I married my high-school sweetheart, and we now have a beautiful daughter. In my spare time, I love hiking, horseback riding, sailing, going to the beach, and taking my daughter to experience new things. We love the Charleston Aquarium and hanging out in nature at our local county parks. Our favorite thing to do, by far, is visit family!
I care deeply about my patients’ vision and orbital function, but also about their self-esteem and self-image. I aspire to be the physician and surgeon my patients recommend to their friends and family, and I am looking forward to pursuing further training in oculoplastic surgery here at Wilmington Eye. Come see me!
