Kathleen C. Leone, MD, FACS is a board-certified LASIK and cataract surgeon and has practiced in Wilmington since 1998. She graduated cum laude from the Georgetown University School of Medicine.
A Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Leone served eight years of active duty before joining the Wilmington medical community. She served at Bethesda Naval Hospital, Guam Naval Hospital and with the Marines at Camp Lejeune Naval Hospital.
She is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American College of Surgeons. She began performing refractive surgery in 1995, and has been awarded certifications in iLASIK, CustomVue® Intralase® laser vision correction as well as Visian ICL™ implantable collamer lens insertion.
“I love practicing ophthalmology. It is extremely rewarding to help patients improve their vision. To have a patient that has worn glasses since elementary school become spectacle-free is exhilarating.”
Dr. Leone states: “The blade-free customized Intralase / VISX S4 LASIK procedure is absolutely state of the art. There is no better time to have refractive surgery from a technological viewpoint. It’s safe and wonderfully precise. We are the only fixed base iLASIK provider in eastern North Carolina. As such, we have an unprecedented edge over our competitors. It is an awesome privilege to perform this procedure. Get ready for a life-changing event!”
Sometimes, patients want LASIK but are not ideal candidates – which is why the in-depth, 2-hour consult offered at no charge is critically important. There is something available for those patients, too! The intraocular collamer lens (ICL) is a fantastic option.
Dr. Leone specializes in bladeless cataract surgery using the latest intraocular lens technology. She was the first cataract surgeon in Wilmington to be certified in this technique and performed the first surgery in Wilmington, September 10th, 2013. One of her goals in performing cataract surgery is to provide the patient with clear vision once again. However, with the advanced lifestyle intraocular lens implants, a secondary goal, if the patient chooses, is to decrease the patients’dependence on prescription glasses, contact lenses and even magnifiers from the drugstore! The possibilities are HERE waiting for YOU!
