An experienced optometrist committed to providing compassionate eye care to patients of all ages

Dr. Hilary Cox, OD was raised in a small, southwest Kansas town. In 2008, she graduated summa cum laude from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Physics. In 2012, Dr. Cox graduated with honors from Southern College Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee, completing externships studying ocular disease and specialty contact lenses at Malcolm Randall VA in Gainesville, Florida, and in primary care here in Wilmington. Before coming to Wilmington Eye, Dr. Cox spent five years in private practice in Swansboro, North Carolina. Her work there included glaucoma and diabetic management, contact lenses, pre-and post-operative care, and treatment of both anterior and posterior segment disease.

At Wilmington Eye, Dr. Cox focuses on the evaluation and treatment of pediatric strabismus, amblyopia, and primary eye care. She also performs specialty contact lens evaluations, emergency care, and comprehensive eye exams for both children and adults. She is committed to providing compassionate eye care to patients of all ages. Dr. Cox takes great pride in helping patients and their families thoroughly understand the condition of their eyes and believes that a well-educated patient is a healthier patient every time.

Dr. Cox is a current member of the American Optometric Association, as well as the North Carolina Optometric Society.

I absolutely love what I do! I enjoy educating my patients because I firmly believe that a well-educated patient, that truly understands their condition, is going to be a healthier patient every time. Most people value sight above all other senses. I love helping to restore that gift without causing any pain.

Dr. Cox has a heart for mission work and has participated in many medical missions locally with Lions Club International, nationally with Remote Area Volunteer Corps, and overseas with the SVOSH organization. She spends her free time enjoying outdoor sports, especially volleyball and surfing. In fact, it’s not unusual to catch Dr. Cox playing competitive volleyball even outside during frostbite season!
