ICL Testimonials Wilmington NC
Dear Dr. Leone,
Thanks to you, my wonky eyes have been transformed into nature-defying eagle eyes (almost). I hope you feel as great as I do because YOU made it happen. It wasn’t even medically necessary but totally changed my life. Do you realize how many people’s lives you change for the better?
I can see stars now without my glasses, and my breath catches when I see the tiny details on a simple bath towel. It’s all so remarkable. When I focus on the halos around lamp posts, it’s like my eyes zoom in and make the halo disappear, so I see only the light. I feel like a wizard.
In other words, THANK YOU!!!
I would like to begin by saying thank you to Dr. Leone and her dedicated staff at Eye Associates of Wilmington. It is truly evident that without your dedicated support I would be battling with poor vision, and still be very dependent and restricted to wearing glasses or contacts for the rest of my life.
I have been plagued with poor vision all my life and have faced many challenges, especially being in the military, with poor vision. During a deployment to Iraq, I developed an Acanthamoeba; A rare disease in my cornea. The disease took over a year of weekly visits to a specialist at the Duke Eye Center to overcome. However, my vision was affected and my cornea was permanently scarred. Due to the scar tissue, I was told any corrective surgery was out of the question. That is until my eye doctor, Sara Brigman, told me about a new advancement, the Visian ICL (Implantable Collamer Lens).
Dr. Brigman quickly recommended Doctor Kathleen Leone and her staff at Eye Associates of Wilmington. My doctor contacted their office to speak with them about my prior eye infection. Their staff was prompt to set up a consultation to see if I was an eligible candidate. After reviewing my information Dr. Leone informed me that with my past history, and poor vision, I would be a good match for the ICL.
Although I am out of the military, my current job keeps me out of the country nearly 80 percent of the year. With that being said, Dr. Leone and her staff were incredible in scheduling the multiple appointments it would take to have the corrective surgery on an extremely tight timeline . The preoperative appointments were in depth and informative. Dr. Leone and her staff were able to answer all questions about the process, the surgery, recovery time, and cost and payment options. Having all the information, I had a realistic expectation of what the surgery could and couldn’t do. I was given all information from STAAR surgical on the success rates and statistical numbers from the FDA study. This allowed making a well informed decision about the surgery very easy.
After surgery, the change in eye sight is incomprehensible to anyone who has not had vision problems. Apart from some slight blurriness, my vision was 20/15 on day one. In the next few weeks the blurriness dissipated and my vision was so good, it was hard realizing I wasn’t wearing contacts or glasses. At night, it took about a week before I quit reaching for my glasses. Based on the numbers from the FDA study, I knew 20/15 wasn’t a realistic expectation in my case, so the outcome was more than anything I was expecting. It has been great not worrying about contacts, solution, or glasses anymore.
I would recommend to anyone not eligible for traditional LASIK, to consider the ICL. I would also highly recommend Dr. Leone and staff.Their dedication in working with my difficult and changing scheduling made what I thought was unattainable, very real and possible. Their ability to go above and beyond demonstrates their true professionalism.
Dear Dr. Leone and the entire staff of Eye Associates of Wilmington,
I cannot thank you enough for all of your help over the past year. I know that I had one of the stranger cases that you’ve seen in quite a while. You always had a plan, and I never once felt like I was alone, or that we wouldn’t be able to resolve the problems. I think it says a lot about a doctor when she gives me her personal cell phone number in case of emergencies, and calls to check up on me when she’s on vacation!
I’ve worn glasses and contacts since I was six years old, and despite all of the complications, I still can’t quite get over the fact that I went from contacts with a prescription of -10.00 (what is that, somewhere in the range of 20/1,000?) to 20/15 vision! It’s amazing to be able to roll out of bed in the morning and not have to reach for glasses. 🙂
You are all wonderful, caring, talented people and I am truly grateful for all you’ve done for me. May God bless you, your families, and all of the people you will help in the future!
